District Award for Hucknall

Nationally, Rotary is organised into Districts with club leadership structures replicated at international, national and district levels.  The District Governor (DG) and District Committee Chairmen also follow the same pattern as the clubs they represent with a DG commencing and finishing their term of office at the same time as the club presidents.  Hucknall located in North Nottinghamshire, England is in Rotary International District 1220 which covers the geographical area comprising Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, South East Staffordshire and North West Leicestershire.  In this area there are around 2,000 members of 58 clubs working together and giving “Service above Self” in their local communities and worldwide.

PP Richard White had represented our club at the District Governor’s Handover Lunch and had been presented with the District Endeavour Award which he brought to the club meeting on Tuesday 3rd July.
PP Richard with the District 1220 Endeavour Shield and Citation

The Shield was presented in recognition of Richard’s personal endeavour in carrying out his duties as Hucknall Club President 2011/12 despite struggling with major illness.  Through the year, Richard often paid tribute to the club in motivating him to stay positive and focused during his treatment.
This was also the first District award for Hucknall since 2000/01 when a project to fund and purchase Christmas Lights for the town resulting in the club receiving the Community Projects trophy.   On behalf of all Hucknall Rotarians, well done Richard and thank you for a great year.
