A Typical Rotary Meeting

Is there any such thing as a typical Rotary meeting?  Originally, Rotarians met for a luncheon, followed by an address from an invited speaker.  However, clubs now meet at a variety of times.  There are clubs that meet for breakfast, lunchtime groups, evening meal clubs and even online clubs.

Similarly, the meeting programme varies.  Sharing with each other over some partaking of food is an important element of building fellowship.  After the meal, club members may attend to club business, enjoy a social activity or listen to a speaker.

Speakers can talk on a wide range of subjects:  Charity Appeals, Project Promotion, Hobby/Interest Demonstration, Members Biography etc.

The Rotary Club of Hucknall meets on a Tuesday evening commencing at 7.15pm.  The only time we don’t meet as a Club is following Bank Holidays.  Our monthly meeting programme usually allows for one Business meeting, one Members Biography evening and a couple of invited speakers.  Different clubs have different methods for inviting Orators. Our method is to allocate a different member on each occasion to bring along with them a speaker of their choice to address the club.  Sometimes, members will give a presentation on a topic of their own choice.

On Tuesday 10th July, PP Ivan Manning gave members a display of what to do in the case of someone choking over food.  Using Rtn Andy Stone to demonstrate how and where to strike on the back, Ivan reminded members of some basic but important first aid techniques.

I should hasten to add that no-one has yet experienced any form of choking while eating their meal at the Hucknall Rotary Club!
